Installation Instructions: EVAP Solenoid Relocation for 2018+ Mustang GT Intake Manifold Swaps
Share
Step 1: Remove the Factory EVAP Solenoid Line
- Locate the line going from solenoid to underneath the brake booster.
- Remove from solenoid, and release from line retainer(s) on the strut tower, and possibly the valve cover.
- Use a pick or pocket screwdriver to release the green plastic clip on the fitting leading to the fuel tank.
- If the clip won’t release, pull up on the two small tabs on the fitting’s backside while trying to pop the green clip away.
Step 2: Modify the Factory EVAP Solenoid
- Cut off both bolt hole perches on the solenoid with a cut-off wheel, Dremel, or hacksaw to reduce its bulk.
- Use a sander or sandpaper to smooth out the cuts for a clean, factory-like finish.
- Remove the o-ring from the base of the solenoid.
Step 3: Prepare the Gates Shrink Clamp
- Find the small plastic shrink clamp on the cardboard tube.
- Using a pocket screwdriver or pick, insert it between the clamp and cardboard to create a depression, then slide the cardboard out of the clamp.
- Work the tool in partially from one side, then fully across, and push down on the tool on both sides of the clamp.
Step 4: Attach the Supplied Hose to the EVAP Solenoid
- Take the provided hose with one preinstalled fitting and slide the loose piece of heat shrink and the Gates shrink clamp over the hose.
- Optionally, spray brake or carb cleaner inside the hose and on the solenoid base (where the o-ring was removed) for easier installation.
- Quickly slide the hose fully onto the solenoid without pausing until it’s securely seated.
Step 5: Shrink the Clamp
- Position the shrink clamp flush against the solenoid’s bottom and apply heat with a heat gun.
- The clamp will shrink slowly. Watch closely until it stops, then apply heat for an additional 2 passes.
- Avoid overheating—if the clamp appears shiny or the hose begins to sweat, reduce temperature or increase distance.
- Once the clamp is secure, move the heat shrink into place to cover the clamp.
Step 6: Install the Hose and Secure the EVAP Solenoid
- Connect the 90-degree fitting of the hose to the intake manifold port facing the passenger side at a 45° angle.
- Locate the EVAP solenoid under the heater hose tray and use the included zip ties to secure it in place.
- Use the 2-way zip tie if you need a slight offset to avoid other nearby components.
Step 7: Install the Second Hose
- On '11-'14s, the slightly smaller fitting goes on the EVAP solenoid (only visible when looking inside the fitting), on '15-'17s the visibly larger fitting goes on the EVAP solenoid.
- Route the hose behind the cylinder head and under the brake booster, ensuring both fittings click securely into place.
- Once installed, both fittings should fit snugly.
Step 8: Connect and Route the Electrical Extension
- Plug the provided electrical extension into the factory EVAP solenoid connector.
- Route the extension along the wiring harness toward the firewall, keeping it neat and secure.
- Continue routing behind the intake manifold, up toward the driver’s side, and plug it into the EVAP solenoid.
